Since thousands of years people have been indirectly dependent on the sun for many of their needs. The sun is known as the provider of life and sustenance on the planet. The sun is the source of all energy and life on earth. However today people are now looking towards the sun as a direct provider of electricity. Solar energy can now be converted into direct current which can be used to power appliances.
Green electricity, as it is rightly called does not cause any pollution and its resources are unlimited. This energy is not going to exhaust unlike the fossil fuels. As of now there is a little problem of storing green electricity for later use. But even this problem will be solved with the use of powerful backup batteries that will store power and supply continuous energy even when the sun is not shining in the sky.
Apart from supplying green electricity from the sun there are some interesting and unusual technologies in the making. For example, there is a technology to create green electricity from Tesla coils. Another method is to make use of magnetic attraction on metal such as iron to generate electricity. These new technologies hold a new scope to generate totally clean electricity.
Today not only the developed nations such as USA are taking green electricity to the forefront of their main aims but also emerging countries such as Brazil, India and South Africa are providing funds for research in these emerging technologies. It is just a matter of time before green electricity will be used on a large scale and there will be an end to countries using fossil fuels to generate electricity.
Bio fuels are another field that has taken the world by form. In this case, energy stored in the plants can be used to generate green electricity. The fuels developed from the plants are called biohydrocarbon fuels. Here the researchers make use of feedstock of plants that have a high fatty content.
Hydrogen is used as a catalyst to manufacture a high energy biofuel. Such fuel is also known as green jet fuel. There is a plant called camelina and it holds the best chances to produce fuel. This plant is a dynamic cash crop and hence it provides farmers extra income since it can be planted on rotation with other food crops. It can be mixed with 50% of the conventional jet fuel and it still gives results.
