A company called Infinite Power Solutions has released a new product called micro power module having the name Infinergy. This is a plug and play module which will eliminate the need for conventional batteries. As the name suggests, the module will supply unlimited power and hence there is no need to change batteries when they run out of power. Infinergy has 3 main energy elements which are efficient power management systems, excellent energy storage capabilities and a regulated output voltage. The modules occupy very little space. They measure a little less than 3 millimeters and in case of length and breadth they measure 29 mm by 29 mm.
The module battery is similar in size when compared to coin cell battery. However it has a much higher life cycle with a low self discharge rate and better performance in terms of continuous discharge current when compared to the traditional battery. Infinergy can be used for DC and AC applications and hence there is no need of an inverter to change the current from one form to another. The module has several uses. For example, it can be used in wireless sensors, factory automation and smart building systems, memory backup systems and locating systems. They can also be used in combination with other sources of energy so that it can provide the necessary energy gap coverage. The module can be used with photovoltaic cells as it can be used forever.
Infinergy has also developed other plug and play modules that function in the same way however they are bigger than the current one. Each of these modules is about 4 mm thick. Since each module has different options they can be used in customizable configurations.
However the major concern that every company thinks of during the development of a new energy storage module is how much it will cost rather than its usage. The other question is how often the module will need to be renewed or replaced. Today these modules have not only outperformed the small batteries but they have also done a great job in terms of the losing their charge. They lose less than one percent of charge per year. Today the company states that the module has the best battery life cycle in the industry with more than 10,000 cycles to its credit.
