Man has been using batteries since ages to power different types of appliances. You cannot imagine your life without batteries. However the battery technology is bound to take a big leap in the future as scientists become more concerned with environmental issues. The major battery improvement aspects that the scientists are now considering include mobility, lifespan and efficiency.

Today scientists are doing great work for increasing the lifespan of the battery. Hence it will take lesser time to recharge renewable batteries and hence the lifespan of the batteries will increase manifold. People will be encouraged to use only rechargeable batteries and not disposable batteries. However the major drawback faced by the scientists is to cram as much power as possible in the smallest sizes. The scientists are optimistic and they claim that in the next few years ultra efficient batteries will be introduced in appliances from small mobile devices to big cars.

In case of efficiency research is being done in nanotechnology which includes nano batteries making use of energy on an atomic level. This technology will be implemented sooner or later in the next 2 or 3 years and it will also become a worldwide phenomenon. The batteries will become smaller in size without losing their efficiency. For example, scientists in South Korea are working on batteries that are wafer thin in size but very powerful. Hence we can expect the introduction of ultra small batteries in the next few generations.

Some of the battery improvements we see in the future are going to be outstanding while there could be chances of them being not used by many people. Rechargeable batteries will be the in thing in portable devices such as iPods and electronic book readers. They will last for a few days without any hiccups and you will be able to charge them with alternative sources of clean energies such as solar and wind power.
