Studies show that by the year 2015, the combustion engine in automobiles will be a thing of the past. The old engines will be found in museums as electric engines take center stage. Gasoline has become expensive due top various parameters and it also leads to emissions in the environment. In the 2009 International Auto Show there were many electric cars introduced for the first time. These cars hold a promise for a greener and better future. It is actually an electric car race for the auto makers.

At the moment the electric cars cannot do more than 100 miles on a single battery charge. The first electric cars were made available for around 40,000 dollars. With the advancement of technology there will be better performing electric cars to choose from. The electric car race will actually come into play in around 2011 and 2012. The winner will be the one who is able to mass produce cars that can cover 2509 miles or more on a single battery charge. The electric car will not only be good for the environment but it will be lighter on our pockets too.

As of now, there are more producers and fewer buyers for the electric car. This is because of the less distance travelled on a single charge and less speed. However perfection of technology will be used for mass production and in the next 5 to 7 years, the electric car will be as good in terms of performance as the conventional car.
