Application/Exam Requirements
To take contractor's exam, must have 1 of the following: degree from an accredited college or university in a 4 year electrical course, 1 year Division-approved work experience as a journeyman electrician, 5 years Division-approved work experience. To get contractor's license, must have $100,000 liability insurance for each person, $300,000 for each accident, and $100,000 property damage. Journeyman exam requires 4 years Division-approved work experience or 3 years Division-approved work experience and a course in electrical wiring from a Division-approved school. Fire alarm installer exam requires 2 years Division-approved work experience.
Fees
Contractor: Exam $125. License $125 in even # year, $250 in odd # year Journeyman: Exam $60 License $25 even# year, $50 odd# year Residential Journeyman Wireman: Exam $60 License $25 even# year, $50 odd# year Fire Alarm Installer: Exam $60 License $25 eve# year, $50 odd# year Apprentice: License $20 even# year, $40 odd# year. Licenses expire on December 31 in even-numbered years
