The importance of going green has taken the world by storm since the last 5 years. Governments across the world are encouraging people to use renewable energy resources so that they can leave behind a lesser carbon footprint. The government has also started providing incentives to people to encourage them to buy and install renewable systems and appliances in their house.

Take the example of a common home appliance which is lights. Today the government is providing various types of incentives to the people to buy and use energy efficient lights such as CFLs. These are lights that provide the same brightness by using only 40% of the power that is used by normal lights. Hence you don’t only benefit from the incentives provided by your government but also by the enormous savings that you can make from reduced electricity costs. However the government is now promoting the use of the latest technology in lighting called Light Emitting Diode. These lights consume very less power and they work on the same technology that you see in colored lights in functions.
In fact, incentives were offered to people right from the time of former President George Bush, who pledged to completely phase out the 100 watt light bulb by the year 2012. Incentives are not given to people in the form of lower prices for buying energy compliant light bulbs. In many states, the government is even offering discount and freebie coupons to people who are looking forward to purchase the energy efficient light bulbs.
Last but not the least is recycling. The government has set up units which specialize in recycling and hence you don’t have to dispose off or throw your existing light bulbs in the trash. The government staff can come to pick the old light bulbs from your house and take them for recycling.
In case you need to make considerable investment for buying light bulbs for your whole house or office, the government can sanction loans to you for your purchases of the new energy efficient light bulbs. The loans also cover installation costs of the bulbs. The government has now tied up with various banks to promote its environmentalist friendly light bulb concept. Hence this way you can procure loans from banks that have tied up with the government. Energy Star is a program promoted by the government for producing light bulbs and other appliances that consume lesser energy and emit lesser or zero pollution.
