Amongst the most recent technologies paving the way for the future is the Lighthouse Tower in Dubai. This is a tall, commercial skyscraper built in Dubai and it was designed by Atkins. The tower is planned to be built 402 m in height. The tower is based on the concept of going green using more of environment friendly materials. It will even employ the technologies of green when it comes into existence.
The project actually includes 2 separate towers that will be connected to each other at level 10. The bridge will be approximately 300 meters above the ground. The tower will have several skygardens. However the construction of the tower was suspended in the year 2009.
Future plans include 3 large 225 kW wind turbines that will each be 29 meters in diameter. They will be facing the south side of the building so as to harness maximum power from the sun’s rays. The tower will be clad in a total of 4,000 solar panels so that extra electricity can be generated. Because of the solar panels the tower will use only 35% of the conventional power. The rest of the power will come from solar radiation. There will be a glass lobby of four storey at the base of the building.
The Green Lighthouse tower will actually be a commercial building about 400 meters in height. Even water consumption in the eco tower will come down by 40%. In order to reduce consumption of electricity and water solutions of passive solar energy as well as low water engineering solutions will be implemented. The materials used in the construction of the building will be of sustainable nature.
The building will be supported by a steel frame in the middle. The construction area used by the tower will be around 140,000 square meters. This is one of the first building projects that the Atkins Group is planning to begin in Dubai. The construction firm wants to start on a good note in Dubai. Atkins Group will concentrate on building such type of residential and commercial properties with the sole aim of being environmental friendly, using renewable energy and being sufficient as far as possible.
The green tower in Dubai will be a good example for building more of these buildings in the future in other countries.
