Limitations/Applicability
License required if you want to build or remodel residential property in Minnesota and your company's gross receipts are over $15,000 in a calendar year. If you don't expect to gross more than $15,000, you must still file an affidavit with the Department. If you go over the limit you must get a license immediately. If you work in two or more specialty trades, you need a license
Application/Exam Requirements
Must have $100,000 liability insurance per occurrence, and at least $25,000 property damage coverage. You may need unemployment insurance and Minnesota workers' compensation insurance. Must pass exam administered by: Pearson VUE

Fees
$51 for business and law exam. Trade exams are also $51. $100 license fee, expires on March 31 each year. Must pay a fee to Contractor's Recovery Fund based on your company's gross receipts:
gross receipts less than $1,000,000 - $160
gross reciepts over $1,000,000 and less than $5,000,000 - $210
gross receitps over $5,000,000 - $260
